Starke Community Health Fair Moves to New Location

healthfairThe Starke County Community Health Fair is growing in size, and they have a new location to show for it.
This year’s health fair will take place on May 11thbetween 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The idea is for area healthcare providers to bring health education to community members by offering free health screenings and promoting healthy lifestyles.
Maddie Spoljoric is the Community Outreach Coordinator for the fair. She says they needed more space, which prompted the move from the community center to the Knox Middle School Gymnasium.
Last year more than 500 free screenings were conducted. Blood pressure, Body Mass Index, and Balance assessments will be available at this year’s event. Middle aged and elderly members of the community may have an interest in assessing their balance to best determine their lifestyle moving forward.
The Starke County Community Health Fair isn’t just for certain age groups. This year, the fair is inviting Starke County 8th graders, about 250 of them, to tour the fair and receive information about adolescent health. That includes lifestyle, heart health, digestive health, and nutrition.
According to Spoljoric there will be plenty of hands-on demonstrations for students, including one on CPR in the heart health exhibit. She says it will offer an idea of what it’s like to perform those movements.
The fair will also feature its signature giant colon exhibit for members of the public to walk through.
Starke Hospitals Health Exchange Navigators will also be available to help those interested in signing up under the healthcare marketplace to receive assistance.
