Starke County Community Corrections is putting its new office space in downtown Knox to use for a new family support group meeting.
The first SMART Recovery Family & Friends meeting will take place this evening from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the recently renovated Annex 2 building across from the Starke County Courthouse.
The group provides support for people who are affected by the addictive behavior of a loved one. Rather than focusing on the loved one, the program invites group members to concentrate on themselves and their goals. They include looking at habitual responses to your loved one and exploring whether or not they are helpful.
SMART Recovery Family & Friends also explores ways members can look after themselves better, even in difficult circumstances, and establish a better relationship with their loved one. Facilitators say taking part in a supportive group environment, comprised of people sharing similar experiences, will hopefully lessen feelings of isolation and instill a sense of hope.
Meeting attendees should enter at the back door on the east side of the building, which leads into the conference room.
Anyone with questions can call either Marilyn at 574-772-2258 ext. 337 or Amanda at at 574-772-2258 ext. 330.
