The Starke County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team will host a fundraising banquet later this year.
The event will be held at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox from 5 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, April 20th.
Tickets can be bought for $25 each. According to event organizers, that gives you access to the buffet dinner and covers the cost of two alcoholic beverages or soft drinks. The banquet is limited to individuals 21 and up.
The event will also feature a cash bar, a DJ and a silent auction with various items that will begin at 8 p.m.
Gun raffles for a Henry-Lever Action 30/30 and a Henry-Lever Action .22 Caliber will take place during the event.
Funds collected will be used to purchase some much needed equipment. This will be the first event of its kind but officials have indicated they’re hoping to make this an annual occurrence.
Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Starke County Justice Center or by contacting any Starke County police officer. You can also buy them online through EventGroove.com.

Starke County Humane Society Fundraiser

The shelter is in dire need of new kennel doors! The ones we currently have were installed in 1990. As you can imagine, they've experienced a lot of wear and tear over the years. Due to the sizes and nature of the doors, they are going to need to be handmade.
We are holding an online Norwex fundraiser thru the month of February. A percentage of all orders will be donated back to the shelter to help us reach our goal of $4,000.00 to replace our kennel doors. All ordering is done online and shipped straight to your door! 4/12/2014 Community Services of Starke County Hosts Tailgaiting Fundraiser

Attention sports fans. Don’t miss your chance to hang out with Chicago Tribune sports writer David Haugh and bid on some exclusive Chicago sports SWAG Saturday night. He’s headlining a tailgaiting party Saturday night at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center to benefit a nonprofit organization close to his heart. His mother, Joan, is the executive director of Community Services of Starke County. Proceeds from “Tailgaiting with David Haugh and Charlie Adams” will all benefit the agency. Haugh says the organization was a part of his life when he was growing up in North Judson and is very important to Starke County because of all of the services they provide. He and former WSBT sportscaster Charlie Adams will be at the 5 p.m. event, which will include a live auction of a lot of sports memorabilia. Items up for bid include items from the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks and footballs signed by Chicago Bears players. The Chicago White Sox also donated items, and a signed Notre Dame Football will be sold as well.
“Any time I get a chance to come back home it’s a good night,” Haugh said. He’s ranked 15th on the IHSAA Career Receiving Yards list with 2,941 and still holds the North Judson-San Pierre High School record. Haugh continued his football career at Ball State, where he was an All-Mid-American Conference safety and Academic All-American. He worked for the “South Bend Tribune” for nearly a decade before joining the “Chicago Tribune” staff in 2003.

NJSP Pop Warner Junior Midget Cheer Squad Toilet Paper & Paper Towel Fundraiser
The NJSP Pop Warner Junior Midget Cheer Squad is raising money through an alternative fundraiser selling discounted name brand toilet paper and paper towels. They will be selling to friends, families, local businesses and others in the community to raise money to help them get to the national cheer competitions in Orlando, Florida.
All products are sold by the case and pricing starts at about 29 cents per roll for toilet paper and $1 per roll for paper towels. You can see samples of the products and place an order by coming by one of their home games on Sundays at NJSP High School. You can also see samples and place an order by contacting any of the Jr. Midget Cheerleaders or by contacting Misty Ratzlaff by phone (815-575-3397) or email (ratzlaff76@gmail.com).
The Paper Drive will run from Sept. 2nd to Sept. 30th and the products will be delivered Oct. 25th.
