Indiana Humanities and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are racing to find an Official Poet for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil!
We invite poets everywhere to submit a poem inspired by the 100th running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” The contest revives a tradition from the 1920s, when a poem was included in the race day program. The poet who captures the checkered flag will receive a cash prize of $1,000, tickets to the big race, and will have his or her work featured in the official 2016 program. A second-place prize of $500 will also be awarded.
In the spirit of the race itself, the winner must be fast! Submissions are due Monday, March 21.
