A Winamac family is set to make their national television debut tonight (Monday). The five daughters of Harold and Thelma Hopkins are contestants on the nationally syndicated game show “Family Feud.”
Connie (Hopkins) Ingram says they needed a pick-me-up following the death of her nephew, Army Spc. Ryan Grandstaff, during a 2014 Army deployment to Germany. She says the close-knit clan was especially looking for a way to cheer up her sister, Tammy, and someone suggested they get on national television. That prompted a discussion of the best way to do so. Someone suggested the game show. Ingram says it was a perfect fit, as each family as five contestants.
The five sisters got together last Jan. 25th after church and made a video with help from their children and other family members. They uploaded Family Feud Audition – The Hopkins Sisters from Winamac Indiana at 9 p.m. and got a call from the show the next day asking them to come for an audition
The sisters traveled to Louisville, Ky. last Feb. 7th and 8th. Ingram says the audition involved playing a mock game in front of more than 500 people. She adds they “rocked the house” and even had their opponents cheering for them.
Ingram and her sisters Laura Cosgray, Tammy Huskins, Debbie Bosak and Karen Scheffer were immediately selected to be contestants on the show. She could not comment on how they fared, but she did say the sisters had a blast. Visit www.familyfeud.com for information about when the show airs locally.
