Schools around the state are adjusting their schedules, as teachers plan to rally in Indianapolis next week. The Indiana State Teachers Association is hosting a “Red for Ed Action Day” on November 19 at the Statehouse.
Locally, the Culver Community Schools Corporation has made that an eLearning Day for students. Superintendent Karen Shuman says the change was approved during last week’s school board meeting. “We had our teachers association request us to do a calendar change for November 19, so that they could attend the legislative kickoff, down in Indianapolis,” she explains. “So we’re going to change that to an eLearning Day on November 19, so that the teachers can have some professional development down there.”
North Judson-San Pierre Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin announced last week that N.J.-S.P. will be closed November 19, with classes to be made up on President’s Day in February.
Most other schools plan to stay open, though. John Glenn officials say they discussed the issue during last week’s school board meeting. They ultimately decided that they wouldn’t close school but would support a delegation.
Plymouth Education Association President Laura Kruyer discussed next week’s rally with her school board last week, but the idea of canceling classes was not brought up.
