The Starke County Courthouse elevator project is nearly complete.
Crews are currently working on some minor checklist items, but the majority of the work is done.
Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem said Monday night that officials from DLZ mentioned in a letter that the contractor had to slightly change the door jams on the second and third floor entryway curves, but it should not affect the historical nature of the building.
An inspector from the state will go over the project in about a couple of weeks and once it passes the inspection it will be put into operation.
The project was slightly delayed due to the timing of other projects being handled by the contractor. Grant paperwork extensions were filed with K-IRPC to ensure the proper procedure for the funding. Starke County was awarded a $500,000 grant to upgrade the ADA compliant elevator.
