T&J Lawn Care, out of Walkerton, will be handling the mowing services for Pioneer and Highland Cemeteries following a decision made by North Judson Town Council members Monday night.
The cemetery mowing contract was initially advertised back in March and individuals had a month to submit bids. The Town Council received and opened two bids last night.
The bid submitted by Tim Rhodes, the owner of T&J Lawn Care Services, was for a total of $12,000. The second bid, submitted by Mike Fanelli came in at $20,995.
Aside from having the less expensive bid, Rhodes also presented members with references from past cemetery mowing jobs he’s had. He also came before the council last month to ask some questions about the bid specifications and to discuss the difference between typical mowing jobs and cemetery work.
Rhodes said, “Whoever does it just has to have the experience to know what makes a cemetery look bad and what doesn’t, that’s really what it comes down to.” He continued, “No matter which cemetery it is, there is an etiquette that you have to follow when you take care of a cemetery and that’s what I have to offer.”
In his bid, Rhodes included a note stating that he would purchase a permit to work in town if the bid was awarded. Now that he knows the bid is his, he will acquire that permit from Clerk-Treasurer Andrew Rowe. This contract will run from April 23rd through November 1st, unless otherwise specified by the Town Council.
