A Knox resident has been honored for their service to the community.

The Gleaner’s Ober Arbor Club honored Ed Hasnerl for his volunteer efforts. Hasnerl has served on the Library Board, the Gateway Committee, as the Starke County Historian, and on the IU Health Starke Hospital Board among many other boards and commissions over the years.

Due to his time spent volunteering in the community, the club gave Hasnerl the “Senior Volunteer of the Year” award. Ober Arbor Club member Arlene Sellars says Hasnerl has a willingness to help in the community.

Typically, the Gleaner’s Ober Arbor Club selects an honoree in the senior and adult categories. At their regular meeting this month, the organization only recognized the senior volunteer.

Sellars says they may still give awards in two other categories this year.

Hasnerl is the pastor of the Eagle Creek Church in Knox.
