The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library is set to replace three air conditioning units installed in 1997 with money from their rainy day fund. Director Jane Ellen Felchuk says two units were replaced last year, and the remaining two will be swapped out in the next year or two.
They will all be replaced with high-efficiency units, with an ultimate goal of putting them on a staggered replacement schedule. The library is also using rainy day fund money to fix leaking box gutters on the original building.
In order for the library to spend the money, the Starke County Council had to approve an additional appropriation. Such action is common for capital improvements like the ones planned at the library.
Additional funds will be used to buy a new computer server and additional and replacement public access computers. Felchuck says the technology upgrades will help the library better serve the public. They are being purchased through a nonprofit technology clearinghouse for libraries and schools and the Net Literacy Computer Opportunity program through the state library.
