With the recent rain and melting snow, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Kankakee River and Tippecanoe River in certain areas. Anyone in the Tippecanoe River area near Ora is advised to be cautious when driving, avoid driving through standing water, and avoid flooded areas.
The NWS has also issued a flood warning for the Kankakee River at Davis Route 30 through Tuesday afternoon, stating that as of 10 a.m. Friday, the stage was 9.6 feet and rising. Minor flooding is forecast. The river is expected to rise above flood stage and crest near 10.5 feet around 6 p.m. today before it falls below flood stage around 12 p.m. on Monday.
At 10 feet, flooding of low-lying agricultural areas begins. Never drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water may be too deep to allow safe passage. Never allow children to play in or near flood waters. Stay tuned for further statements and updated forecasts.
