Details of one of the strangest mysteries in Northern Indiana is coming up. Historian Bruce Johnson and Film Producer Stephen Ruminski, from LaPorte, will be at the Starke County Historical Society's annual meeting, presenting a program about one of the most gruesome murder mysteries of all times. It appears that perhaps 40 people were killed by this never-caught individual. Some things to be revealed are -----
What does a set of false teeth have to do with a headless woman?
What was found in the hog lot on a farm in La Porte County?
Why was a piano found on top of children? (Two are in the attached photo.)
And, and, and -- yes, many more questions to be answered --- and some may never be answered.
Save the date of November 21, 2013, for the program at the Knox High School Cafeteria. More information to come later.

10/26/2013 Annual NJ-WT Library Haunted House
The "monsters" return to try and scare your heart into your mouth. Knowing that they are less active during the daylight hours, we recommend the early session for young children and those more sensitive souls.
Ah, but when the sun goes down...then the monsters will be most active. That's when those who possess an adventurous nature will want to visit and test themselves against the horrors within the Haunted House.

Notes from Nubi - I've Missed You!
It has been weeks since I’ve been to the library for a visit. First mom was preparing for the new automation system, then they migrated to the new system, now mom is working on the patron files and on fixing the little glitches everyone finds. How I wish this would all end, so does mom.
Anyway mom doesn’t know it, but I’ve been spending my hours at home on her laptop. (I make sure that it’s plugged in so I don’t wear down the battery, so far she hasn’t caught on.) This can be pretty boring, there really aren’t that many sites for dogs by dogs. There is that Disney Channel program, Dog With A Blog, but I don’t think that’s for real.
But while I was on the internet I found this really cute idea for a doggy costume.
Matter of fact, I thought it really was two dogs at first! Hope you like it too. And if I don’t see you at the library before – Happy Halloween to everyone!

One more mile on the road to migration is completed!
When you visit our website you will notice that we once again have a functioning card catalog!!!!! (And a very attractive site it is.) When you check to see if we own an item you are looking for you can click on the title to get more information. Is the item in? When is it due?
Now for the next step on the migration road, we have ordered new library cards. Once they arrive - it can take up to 45 days to get them from the manufacturer - we will let you know so you can come in and exchange your card. With the new one you will be able to reserve items through the card catalog by entering the 14 digit barcode. Once you accessed your library account you will see what you currently have out; you can do a one-time renewal if you need to; and you should also be able to see what items you have checked out in the past, just in case you don’t remember if you read a particular book.
Whew, makes me tired just to think about all the work required to get this up and running.
So we’ll keep in touch as each step is completed and let you know what to expect next.
