North Judson-San Pierre’s student meal prices and textbook fees will stay the same for another year. The cost of lunch at the junior/senior high school will remain at $2.50, while elementary school students will pay $2.30. The student breakfast price is $1.50.
School officials say those prices fall within the paid lunch equity requirements for the 2019-2020 school year, meaning that no cost increase is necessary.
When it comes to textbook fees, Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin told the school board last week that neither of the schools got new textbooks this year that would lead to a cost increase. “We held off for a year because we are moving to more digital devices,” she explained. “We want to make sure that we didn’t buy textbooks this year and, perhaps, not get the digital resources we needed or pay for that and then pay again next year. So the digital resources and the software licenses, those would be looked into next year, as more and more devices will be on-hand for us.” However, Zupin said next year’s textbook fees do correct some past calculation errors.
The school board approved the 2019-2020 meal prices and textbook fees unanimously.

N.J-S.P. School Board Approves 2017-18 Textbook Fees, Meal Prices, Elementary Handbook

The North Judson-San Pierre School Board is finalizing some plans for next school year. On Tuesday, board members approved the elementary school handbook, textbook fees, and meal prices for the 2017-2018.
Superintendent Annette Zupin said for the most part, there are no major changes. “The handbook changes that you see are very minor, cosmetic, pretty much, with name changes, dates,” she said. “Mrs. [Julie] Berndt, our new elementary principal for next year, she has reviewed the handbook and feels it is appropriate. When she comes in and feels that changes need to be made, she can make addendums, but I’m sure she wants to kind of assess things for a semester or the year. So she is very comfortable with the proposed handbook.”
The handbook for the junior/senior high school was approved last month. Zupin added that next year’s textbook fees will be roughly the same as this year’s, but students in kindergarten through eighth grade will see a slight reduction.
No changes to school meal prices are planned for next year, but the school board did approve some guidelines for dealing with students who fall behind in their payments. Zupin says the policy is required by the National School Lunch Program. “Students will be permitted to charge up to two meals or a total of four dollars,” she explained. “After receiving two regular meals and the account is still negative and they have not paid, we will provide up to two alternate meals, and that is a cheese sandwich and milk for lunch. Those will be charged to them, but that’s their alternative meal. At that point, we really hope that we can contact the parents and make sure that that is paid.”
She encouraged parents to keep an eye on their children’s accounts by using MySchoolBucks.com.

N.J.-S.P. Sets 2016-17 School Meal Prices
The North Judson-San Pierre School Board this week approved breakfast and lunch prices for the 2016-17 school year. Student breakfasts will increase from $1.40 to $1.50 per meal. Adults will pay $1.75 per breakfast.
Student lunches will go up by 20-cents at both the elementary and the junior/senior high school. Elementary students will pay $2.30 per tray, and junior/senior high students will pay $2.50. Adult lunches will cost $3.25 each.
Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Boyd says the prices are “in the ballpark” with other area corporations. He adds they are more expensive than Knox due to economies of scale.
