The Starke County Historical Society is hosting its annual “Old Fashioned Ice Cream Social” Sunday afternoon, July 3, at the new Starke County History Center at 1520 South Heaton Street. That’s just north of the Lutheran Church on U.S. 35, on the south edge of Knox.
Owners of an antique car, truck, tractor, motorcycle, or other vehicles are encouraged to bring it for display.
The Lutheran church has given the History Center permission for visitors to park in the church parking lot.
The remodeling of the former office of Dr. Walter Fritz is not complete, but will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. CDT. Music and other entertainment is planned.

Ice Cream Social Planned to Celebrate North Judson History During Mint Festival
AuthorMichael Gallenberger, WKVI
Festival organizer Donna Henry gave the town council an update last week. “For the Mint Festival Committee, everything is pretty much ready for the festival to go on, and we’re looking forward to a very pleasant weekend for our community,” she said.
The festival takes on an added significance this year, since it’s North Judson’s sesquicentennial. To mark the occasion, the town is planning an ice cream social to take place during this weekend’s festivities. Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins says it will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 in the Town Hall, “Basically, we’ll use this as a cooling station. If anybody wants to stop by, we’ll celebrate North Judson’s sesquicentennial, and we’re going to do an old-fashioned ice cream social. We’ll have some pictures and memorabilia in here. They can tell stories.”
Town council member Jane Ellen Felchuk says several pictures from the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library’s collection will be on display, and residents will have the chance to help identify some of the people in the photographs.
The Mint Festival takes place Friday, June 17 through Sunday, June 19.

And if you have a collection of historic items, bring them along to show your friends and neighbors. We have had exhibits of antique cars, motor cycles, trucks, tractors, fire engines, arrowheads, fire arms, military vehicles, native wood turnings, fishing lures, dolls, and many others. We've had spinning wheel demonstrations and have been entertained by dulcimer players. Plus, you will want to look at the exhibits in the Museum.
If you have an exhibit you would like to bring, call me, Jim Shilling, 574-772-4311
