12/16/2016 WKVI Food Drive Scheduled Tomorrow at Five Star
Posted on December 15, 2016
Author Mary Perren, WKVI
WKVI Morning Show Host Ray Grossman is once again taking his show on the road, but he doesn’t have very far to go this week. He’ll be broadcasting live from Five Star in the Knox Mall tomorrow morning from 5 until 10 a.m.
The live broadcast is part of WKVI’s annual food drive for Starke County Community Services. All non-perishable food and monetary donations will go to the food pantry in order to help Starke County residents who need a bit of assistance.
Items like canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, cereal, pasta and the fixings for a traditional Christmas dinner make a big difference for the food pantry.

WKVI’s Grossman in the Morning Hosts Food Drive in Winamac
Posted on December 8, 2016
Author Mary Perren, WKVI
WKVI morning man Ray Grossman is taking his show on the road tomorrow for a good cause. He will be broadcasting live from Sanders grocery store in the Winamac Plaza from 6 until 11 a.m. EST as part of a food drive for the Pulaski County Human Services food pantry.
In past years WKVI has done a bi-county food drive in Pulaski and Starke Counties the Saturday before Thanksgiving to help prepare for the holiday season. This year we decided to split the events up and hold them between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Non-perishable items like canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, cereal and past, as well as fixings for a traditional Christmas dinner, a go a long way toward helping families stretch their food budgets. Monetary donations are also welcome, as they allow Pulaski County Human Services to purchase items of particular need.
A similar food drive is planned Friday, Dec. 16 at Five Star in the Knox Mall during the Grossman in the Morning Show. Stop by to say hello, and please give generously.

11/21/2015 WKVI Food Drive Planned Saturday in Knox, Winamac
AuthorMary Perren, WKVI
Stop and see WKVI staff members Saturday in Knox and Winamac as you shop for your Thanksgiving dinner. The station is once again hosting a bi-county food drive to benefit the Community Services of Starke County and Pulaski County Human Services food pantries.
Tony Ross and Ed Hasnerl will be at Five Star in the Knox Mall from 10 a.m. until noon Central, while Nathan Welter and Mary Perren will be at Sanders in Winamac doing the same. Lenny Dessauer will be in the studio checking in live with the teams at both locations during the two-hour donation drive.
“WKVI is a community radio station,” Dessauer said. “Hosting our annual food drive allows us to interact with our listeners and provide a valuable service to the community we call home. The food pantries in both Knox and Winamac are an important part of that community, especially during the holidays. It is our hope our listeners in Starke and Pulaski Counties will once again give generously as they do every year.”

WKVI Sports Bet Payoff Continues with Food Drive
Published: By: Mary Perren, WKVI
WKVI Sports Director Nathan Welter isn’t done paying off his bet on the outcome of the Knox v. North Judson football game just yet. He’s a Knox graduate, and news director Mary Perren is a N.J.-S.P. alum, so they make a friendly wager on the game each year. North Judson beat Knox 21-14 at Community Field two weeks ago. Last week Nathan served lunch at the high school cafeteria and got glitter dumped on him by the four captains from the Knox game during the homecoming pep rally. He also presented a check for $25 to the Bluejay athletic department.
Tomorrow the final payoff will take place from 11 a.m. until noon at Heartland Market, formerly Ray’s Super Foods, in downtown North Judson. First Nathan has to dye his beard blue, since he doesn’t have hair, and then he and Mary will conduct a food drive at the store. All donations will go to the Community Services of Starke County food pantry. We’ll leave the donation bin in place for a few days if you can’t make it during the drive. However, it may be worth rearranging your schedule to come help a good cause and snap an epic selfie with Nathan “Blue Beard” Welter.
