Starke County Election Board Sets Early Voting Hours for North Judson Election
Posted on September 13, 2019
Author Michael Gallenberger, WKVI
Early voting hours for North Judson’s General Election were finalized by the Starke County Election Board Thursday.
Board members have established a satellite in-person absentee voting location at the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library. Polls will be open there on Thursday October 17 and Thursday, October 24 from noon to 6:00 p.m.; Friday, October 18 and Friday, October 25 from noon to 5:00 p.m.; plus Saturday, October 19 and Saturday, October 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Voters can also cast their ballots early at the Starke County Courthouse in Knox on Saturday, November 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Monday, November 4 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Voters meeting certain requirements may also request to vote by mail by contacting the Starke County Clerk’s Office.
Clerk Bernadette Welter-Manuel told the election board Thursday that North Judson had offered the use of its town hall as an early voting site, but she recommended using the library since it’s already open when voting will be held, among other reasons.
Election Day voting will be held Tuesday, November 5 from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the North Judson-Wayne Township Fire Station or North Judson-San Pierre High School, depending on a voter’s precinct. More information can be found at IndianaVoters.com.

So What's Happening This Month?
You do know what happens when the kids start back to school, don't you? It's that mad rush into the holidays and the end of the year. Before you know it all types of events will be popping up that you or the kids will want to attend. While we won't have ALL of them listed, you might want to check our Community Calendar of area events every so often to see what's coming up.
And if you're in charge of advertising/scheduling for your group/organization you can drop off a flier for your event and we'll be glad to add it to our website.

We're Keeping Track for You
It never hurts to advertise in advance, but if it’s done too
early people can easily forget something they really want to attend. Just the other day I added the month of August
to the list of Area Events on our website (https://sites.google.com/njwtpl.org/njwtpl/area-events-community-calendar/june-july-august?authuser=0)
to include the Bluejay Basketball Golf
Outing on 8/17 (you do need to register for the Golf Outing in advance).
And oh my gosh, during the month of June the days have been
packed! While some of the items are
recurring events – our Summer Reading Programs; Moving Starke County Forward: 100
miles in 100 Days; Vacation Bible schools; Food Breakfast/Lunch Programs; NJ
Kiwanis; TOPS; AA meetings; NA meetings; etc. – some of them are one-time only
events. And you wouldn’t believe how busy
Thursdays were, I’ve counted up to 13 different things!
I’ve checked our Community Calendar (https://sites.google.com/njwtpl.org/njwtpl/area-events-community-calendar?authuser=0)
and July is looking a bit calmer, Thursdays only have 11 events listed. But the Starke County 4-H Fair starts on July
13th with the Dog Show (Obedience and Showmanship) and runs through
the 20th. And there’s the Kid’s
Closet Fundraiser, Bass Lake Festival, and Tippy-Tri Challenge along with those
regularly scheduled weekly and monthly events.
And if you’re interested there are plenty of festivals
happening outside of Starke County (https://sites.google.com/njwtpl.org/njwtpl/indiana-festival-guide/june-july?authuser=0). Right now, we only have regional listings
through the end of July, but that’s 29 area festivals you might find
interesting.
The web addresses won’t be exactly the same for the Area
Events and Indiana Festival Guide when we change the name of the page by adding
the next month. But you just need to remember
to visit us at www.njwtpl.org and browse
our pages to find an assortment of interesting things.

NJ-WT Library Offers Adult Summer Reading Challenge that’s Out of this World
Posted on May 29, 2019
Author Jacque Ryan, WKVI
The North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library is offering a few different opportunities for adults this summer to help remind older residents that regular reading isn’t just important for children.
Director Kelsie Purcell said that this is the first year the library is offering opportunities specifically geared at adults.
She noted that one element of the adult summer reading challenge involves the potential to win a prize.
Purcell shared, “Every time you come in and check out a book and when you return it, you’ll get to fill out a card that puts your name into a drawing. We’re going to have three drawings at the end of the program for gift cards.”
Purcell said the gift cards will likely be for a book store to help keep the prizes connected to reading.
In addition to the gift card drawing, the library will also be putting a spin on ‘escape rooms’ with their “Break out Box” challenges.
The theme of this year’s Summer Reading program is “A universe of Stories” to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
To be in line with the theme, the break-out box challenges are also space-related.
Purcell said in the challenge, team members will be playing a group of astronauts who are preparing to open a museum when something goes awry.
She explained, “The night before, one of the astronauts that you didn’t allow to help on got mad and he came in and he mixed everything up and hid some things and he took your opening speech and locked it in a box.”
She added that the team will get 45 minutes to get everything put back in order and to unlock the box to retrieve the speech before the opening ceremony.
These challenges will be open to the public from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 21st and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22nd.
There can be a maximum of 5 adults per group. She said if there’s a lot of interest in the challenges, they’ll hold more throughout the summer.
If you’re ready to blast off with the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library this summer, give them a call at 574-896-2841.

Made a slight change on the North Judson-Wayne Township Library's website this year hoping to include news from both of the school systems in town. We've changed the webpage "NJ-SP School News" to "NJ Schools News" and have included the web address for St. Peter's Lutheran School. There is also a NEW activities calendar in that section for St. Peters, which is also included in the North Judson Schools Calendars on the home page of our website.
