Starke County Democrats will be choosing a couple new officials during a caucus next week. County Treasurer Kasey Clark recently resigned to take over as treasurer for the Knox Community School Corporation. Additionally, Kenny Wallace says he’s stepping down from his position of Starke County Democratic Party chair.
Wallace says both vacancies will be filled during a caucus scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the Knox VFW. Those interested in filling one of the positions must submit a letter of interest at least 72 hours before the start of the caucus. Letters should be sent to Democratic Party Vice-Chair Brenna Crase at 6245 S. County Road 100 West in North Judson.

Caucus to Replace NJ Clerk-Treasurer Scheduled for Tomorrow

A caucus to find a replacement for the clerk-treasurer position in North Judson is scheduled for this Thursday. The current clerk-treasurer, Alicia Collins, announced her resignation during the first North Judson Town Council meeting in October.
Alicia Collin’s last North Judson Town Council meeting will be October 16th and her final day at the office is October 20th. She told council members she will make her self available for training during the transition period.
In order to be eligible for the position, candidates had to vote Democrat in the last primary election and submit a letter of interest to the Democratic chairman 72 hours prior to the scheduled caucus.
Tuesday afternoon, Starke County Democrat Chairman Kenny Wallace said that only one person had submitted the required letter of interest at that time. However, since yesterday was the last day for submissions, he was expecting more to come through.
The caucus will take place at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night at the VFW in Knox.

Snowdon Selected as Starke County Assessor

Starke County has a new assessor. Longtime assessor’s office employee Michelle Snowdon was unanimously chosen during a Democratic Party caucus Thursday. Snowdon replaces Rhonda Milner, who officially stepped down from the position Friday afternoon.
Indiana law requires county assessors to have a certain amount of training. Assessors elected after January 1, 2012 must be certified as at least a Level 3 assessor-appraiser. The assessor is responsible for identifying, listing and calculating the assessed value of all real and personal property.

Starke County Democrats to Choose New Assessor

The Starke County Democratic Party will caucus on May 25th to select a new assessor. Rhonda Milner is stepping down from that elected position on May 26th.
By law a county assessor must be at least a Level 3 assessor-appraiser if he or she is elected after Jan. 1, 2012.
Starke County Democratic Party Chairman Kenny Wallace says the two assistants in the assessor’s office both meet those guidelines, but he only expects one of them to seek the position.
The assessor is responsible for identifying, listing and calculating the assessed value of all real and personal property. Representatives from the Starke County Assessor’s office physically inspect 25 percent of the parcels in the county each year to ensure accurate information for every property record. Accurate records help provide accurate assessments to the taxpayers.
County officials noted Milner is leaving the office in good shape and thanked her for her service.

Rowe Selected for North Judson Town Council
John Rowe has been selected as the newest member of the North Judson Town Council. He defeated Joan Haugh by a vote of 2 to 1 in a Democratic Party caucus Monday, according to North Judson Clerk-Treasurer Alicia Collins.
Rowe replaces Justin Davis who resigned from his seat on the council, which he had held since 2013.
