Several Starke County students will be heading back to school with some new clothing thanks to the Kankakee Valley Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P) and the local agencies who participated in the annual ‘Shop with a Cop’ event.
The event was attended by approximately 60 local students as well as Officers from the North Judson and Knox Police Departments and personnel from the Starke County Sheriff’s Department and the Prosecutor’s Office.
North Judson Town Marshal Kelly Fisher addressed the annual initiative Kankakee Valley F.O.P initiative during her report at Monday night’s town council meeting.
Fisher explained, “Through that organization, we raise money throughout the year and on Sunday we did Shop with a cop.”
She continued, “They try to raise enough money where we can have 20 children per school; Judson, Knox and O-D and it just helps the kids and they get to shop with the police officers so we had a lot of fun with that.”
Marshall Fisher mentioned that the agencies work with the school corporations to receive the names of families that would be in need of back-to-school shopping assistance.
