One State/One Story - Happy 200th Anniversary Frankenstein!

Happy Birthday Frankenstein!

It’s official! Frankenstein is 200 years old! Published on Jan. 1, 1818, by 19-year-old Mary Shelley, the story of Victor Frankenstein and his “creature” has not only managed to survive, it has become one of the most important novels of our time. There are so many reasons we chose this book for our first One State/One Story program, and we look forward to teasing those out throughout the year. Want to join the birthday celebration? There are a number of ways you can participate:

• Read the book along with us chapter by chapter, beginning on Jan. 19. Each week (on Frankenstein Friday) we’ll post a chapter of the book on our blog with discussion questions. (In January, MIT Press will publish a free open-source version of the book mentioned above, annotated for scientists, engineers and other creators. The online version will include all the annotations from the print edition, plus some new ones. Even cooler, you’ll be able to add your own annotations! We’ll share when it’s available.)
• If you’re part of a book club, borrow copies of Frankenstein from our free Novel Conversations lending library. 
• Attend a Frankenfest read-a-thon of the book. 
• Attend our digital gaming workshop or an immersive weekend retreat for adults. 
• Check out the events at more than a dozen colleges and universities, including special community courses, exhibits and film festivals inspired by the book.
