The North Judson Town Council may decide whether to move ahead with an urban chicken ordinance tonight. Resident Sarah Burkett is scheduled to present a petition in support of the measure.
Back in July, council members said they’d consider allowing chickens in town, if Burkett could get signatures from 300 residents by the end of August. Chickens are currently prohibited under the town’s animal ordinance, but a dispute over whether Burkett was granted an exception to that rule has led to a renewed push to legalize chickens in general.
In other business tonight, the North Judson Town Council will get an update from Monty Timm Sr. on efforts to address safety concerns at 214 Lane Street. Council members will also consider resolutions to move ahead with financing for proposed water and sewer upgrades. They will also discuss updates to the council’s bylaws, including the addition of a council vice-president.
Tonight’s North Judson Town Council meeting begins at 6:30 at North Judson Town Hall, following a special session at 5:30. During that meeting, council members will work on the town’s 2018 budget with Eric Walsh from accounting firm Umbaugh and Associates.
