A bridge has been closed by the Starke County Highway
Department.
Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler told WKVI that the bridge
on 700 East just north of State Road 8 will be closed for at least a week.
He explained that a tree traveling down the Yellow River at
that location hit and dislodged a pier at the bottom of the bridge. The pier is
essential in keeping up the bridge and the structure was immediately closed
once pictures were sent to the state to report the damage.
The bridge was on track to be replaced in 2018. It will be
mended for now and may be on the fast track for replacement.
