Local voters have a few more chances to cast their ballots early, ahead of next week’s primary. In-person absentee voting continues today from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Starke County Courthouse in Knox. Pulaski County residents may vote today at either the Pulaski County Justice Center in Winamac or the Francesville Fire Station from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tomorrow, early voting will take place at the Starke County Courthouse from 8:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Winamac and Francesville early voting locations will both be open tomorrow from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the Culver Town Hall will serve as an early voting site tomorrow from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The last day to cast an absentee ballot is Monday. Polls will be open at the Starke County Courthouse from 8:00 a.m. to noon and at the Pulaski County Justice Center from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
On Election Day, polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Applications Now Being Accepted for Mail-In Ballots, Ahead of May Primary

Those who want to vote in the May 8 primary but won’t be able to make it to the polls on Election Day have a few options. The Starke County Clerk’s Office is now accepting applications for mail-in ballots. They’ll be sent out to qualified voters starting the week of March 24, according to county election officials.
Voters in Starke County can request to vote absentee-by-mail by calling 574-772-9160.
The Pulaski County Clerk’s Office can be reached at 574-946-3313.
The option to vote absentee-by-mail is available to those who won’t be able to vote on Election Day due to a variety of reasons, such as work obligations, illness, injury, or religious reasons. Voters who are at least 65 years of age and those who have a disability are also eligible to vote by mail. Complete eligibility guidelines can be found on the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office website.

Starke County Election Board Looks to Improve Early Voting Site

The Starke County Election Board wants to make it easier for voters to cast their ballots early at the courthouse. On Wednesday, board members discussed moving in-person absentee voting from the second floor to a currently-unused space on the first floor, according to County Clerk Vicki Cooley.
She says the change will make the voting location more accessible to people with disabilities. While the courthouse has an elevator, Cooley says it’s difficult to use and not always reliable.
The new space would be right next to the building’s main entrance. It would have room for poll workers, as well as two voting machines. Cooley adds that the room would be set aside for voting only. Voter registration and other election business would still take place in the clerk’s office upstairs.
One Election Day polling place was also reviewed by the election board Wednesday. Cooley says voting in the Oregon 2 precinct may be moved out of the Koontz Lake Fire Station to somewhere more accessible to voters with disabilities.

This is the first day for prospective General Election voters to cast absentee ballots. Registered Starke County voters may do so on the second floor of the courthouse weekdays from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 4 p.m. Please be sure to bring a government-issued photo ID. Only voters who reside in Starke County may vote at the courthouse.
Extended absentee hours will be offered on Thursday, Oct. 27, Tuesday, Nov. 1 and Thursday, Nov. 3. On all three days ballots may be cast in the clerk’s office from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 6 p.m.
Saturday absentee hours will also be offered Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 4 p.m.

Starke County Absentee Voting Hours
This is the first day to vote absentee in advance of the May 3rdprimary election. Extended absentee voting will be offered on Thursdays April 21st and 28th, when polls will be open until 7 p.m. Saturday absentee voting will also be offered on April 23rd and 30th from 8 a.m. until noon and 1 until 4 p.m. The final day to vote absentee is Monday, May 2nd, when polls will be open from 8 a.m. until noon.

Starke County Election Board Sets Absentee Dates, Times
In-person absentee voting in Starke County in advance of the May 3rd primary election will begin April 5th and continue through May 2nd.
Polls will be open at the Starke County Courthouse each Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until noon and from 1 until 4 p.m. Voters must bring a photo identification with them to cast ballots in the second floor meeting room.
The Starke County Election Board yesterday approved two Thursdays and two Saturdays of extended absentee voting as well. Polls will be until 7 p.m. on Thursdays April 21st and 28th.
Saturday absentee voting will take place on April 23rd and 30th from 8 a.m. until noon and 1 until 4 p.m. The final day to vote absentee is Monday, May 2nd, when polls will be open from 8 a.m. until noon.
Poll worker training will take place Tuesday, April 26th and Thursday, Thursday, April 28th from 6 until 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 30th from 9 until 11 a.m. at the courthouse. During the training, the responsibilities of each person involved in the election process will be reviewed and problems identified in previous elections will be addressed in hopes they don’t occur again.
Both the Democrat and Republican Parties are in need of poll workers for Election Day. Anyone interested in helping out can contact their respective party chair.
