North Judson-San Pierre School Board members considered purchasing some more iPads when members met in October.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin reminded members that NJ-SP received a grant through the Indiana Department of Education to develop a technology plan.
She noted, “We had two phases of that. We were going to buy some of the computers for this school year, and we did, and then we were going to have ready for next school year, the rest of those. We’re ready to implement and purchase now.”
Dr. Zupin said there is money available from the corporation’s general obligation bond that was set aside for technology and stated that teachers seem ready to move forward ahead of schedule.
However, she informed board members that even if the additional technology is purchased, that doesn’t mean it can be utilized immediately.
She shared, “It will take time for hundreds of computers to be ready to go but I anticipate us being able to use these computers before the end of the school year.”
Zupin noted that NJ-SP plans to utilize the technology a little differently than some other schools, stating they’ll be utilized as a supplemental educational tool within the classrooms.
She explained, “A lot of schools call it one-to-one, that means that they go home. We have chosen to call it devices on demand and keep them here at school.”
School board members voted unanimously to approve the purchase of the iPads.

Summer Projects Wrapping Up at North Judson-San Pierre Schools

The North Judson-San Pierre School Corporation is making progress on a few summer projects. In her report to the school board Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said the track has been resurfaced. The tennis court cement project is complete. At the junior-senior high school, painting and the installation of white boards was wrapping up.
Zupin also reported that the school corporation’s new iPads have been delivered. As part of N.J.-S.P.’s new “devices on demand” initiative, each fourth, fifth, and sixth grade student will have access to an iPad. iPads will also be available in every language arts and math classroom at the junior-senior high school. But so far, students will not be allowed to take the devices home.

North Judson-San Pierre School Board Approves Agreement for New iPads

North Judson-San Pierre students will soon have access to new iPads. The school board Tuesday approved a lease agreement with Apple that will allow the school corporation to get 420 of the devices.
Superintendent Dr. Annette Zupin said it’s part of the school corporation’s “devices on demand” initiative. “So every fourth, fifth, and sixth grader will have a device,” she explained. “They will not go home yet. We’re working on that. But they will have it at school. And then every English and Language Arts teacher will have a set of 30, and every Math teacher will have a set of 30 at the junior/senior high.”
To pay for the iPads, Zupin said N.J.-S.P. will continue a lease program for another two years with an annual payment of almost $60,000 that had already been budgeted. But beyond that, the school corporation will also make an up-front cash payment of almost $128,000, using money from last year’s general obligation bond issue for technology upgrades.
