Nearly 13 percent of Northern Indiana residents suffer from food insecurity; that’s approximately 279,240 Hoosiers!
Such a startling statistic reflects that you may have neighbors, friends or family members who suffer silently as they wonder where their next meal will come from.
In order to assist those in need, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana will have their mobile food pantry at the Knox United Methodist Church this Friday.
The Mobile Pantry will be stationed at the church from 10 a.m. until noon and the service is available to all northern Indiana residents in need of food assistance.
The pantry will offer fresh perishable items such as dairy, grains and proteins as well as dry goods. The items are provided on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Individuals are asked to bring bags or boxes to carry items home.
Food Bank officials note that if weather conditions are adverse or there is a limited amount of product available, there is a possibility of cancellation and the location is subject to change.
According to information provided on their website, the Northern Indiana Food Bank is affiliated with the organization ‘Feeding America.’ That organization has been responding to the hunger crisis for 35 years by providing food to people in need through a nationwide network of food banks.
Last year alone, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana was able to distribute more than 7 million pounds of food to its network of 165 member agencies.

Annual Christmas Cantata Scheduled for This Sunday

This Sunday, more than 40 singers from various churches around the community will perform at the Knox United Methodist Church as a part of the annual Community Christmas Cantata.
Members of the choir have been rehearsing nearly every Thursday since September. The singers will perform ‘And it Came to Pass, Emmanuel’ twice, with the first performance at 2 p.m. and another at 6 p.m.Director Nan Folkers said that each performance will last about one hour. She said some of the pieces are narrative and commented about how much fun they’ve had preparing for Sunday’s event.
The Christmas Cantata is open to everyone and free to attend. If you have any questions contact Nan Folkers at 574-772-6248.

Choir Call-Outs for Community Christmas Cantata This Thursday

Though there are still a few other holidays coming up before Christmastime is officially here, practices for a December performance will start soon. Choir call-outs for this year’s Community Christmas Cantata will be Thursday at 6 p.m. CT in the Knox United Methodist Church. Brian Liechty and Nan Folkers are working together as directors for this year’s production and will hold choir practices at the church every Thursday at 6 p.m. following the initial call-out meeting.
The cantata will be performing ‘And it Came to Pass, Emmanuel’ composed by Rose Aspinall and Jay Rouse. Folkers said she is very excited to start working with community members on the pieces for this year.
“It’s a really lovely works of different songs and music put together.” Folkers explained, “If anyone’s familiar with them they know that those arrangements are usually pretty fun and beautiful music.”
Call-outs are open to anyone at the high-school level or older. The cantata is not only limited to Starke County residents. Folkers encourages all interested individuals to come out Thursday. She also said practice CDs can be disbursed in the event that someone has a scheduling conflict that does not allow them to attend particular practices.
