Students from the music departments at Starke County’s three high schools will take part in a free concert this weekend. The inaugural Starke County Pride Concert will feature band and choir members from Knox, North Judson-San Pierre and Oregon-Davis High Schools which will incorporate the music departments from all three high schools in Starke County. Leadership Starke County facilitator Jim Jessup says class members cited a lack of unity and county pride. They split into smaller groups to brainstorm, and one of them came up with the idea of having a county-wide concert which includes all of the music departments from all three high schools in the county. The free public concert will take place on Sunday, May 18th at 3:30 p.m. CT in the North Judson San-Pierre High School Auditorium. Jessup says Leadership Starke County is a fairly new program. The second class just graduated. The 13 members participated in a nine month community leadership training program to learn more about Starke County, leadership skills and community involvement. Applications for the next Leadership Starke County course are available at the county clerk’s office. There’s a $300 fee for the program. The next session will start in September.
